25hp, Can't keep running.

A friend of mine Just bought a used boat with a 25hp Johnson or Evinrude, late 90's I think. (Can't rember) He says it will start right up, but will only run for a short period of time. I'm thinking sticking float. It's using whatever fuel is in the float bowl, then starving when the bowl is empty. <br /><br />Am I on the right track?

Probably not the float, but the fuel pump. See if it can be made to continue running by pumping the fuel line bulb.

What happens to the primer bulb on the fuel line?<br /><br />It could be as simple as a fuel tank vent.

or the hose is on backwards. the arrow points toward the engine.
