I hate to say it, but I think you're back to F_R's advice in post #6. Did you do a compression check?

I changed the head gasket because there was water in the head, ran it for a while and still not running right ,pulled the plugs and more water,i am going to check the exhaust per F_R's advice,.i will report back to what i find, thanks for the info.

Wouldnt you know it, i got all the bolts out of the exhaust plate but one and it is where i can get a socket on it,before i round it off with the wrench im going to go buy a torch and try to heat and break it loose, buying a new motor is sounding better every day .

Re: 25HP johnson

Finished changing the exhaust gaskets, took the boat out to the river and ran it for about an hour, did most of it with a wide open or mid range throttle and it ran great,a few times i just let it idle in gear and drifted with the river and it ran good,so i guess tommarrow ill test it a little bit more and do some trolling for stripers, thanks again for all of the advice.

P.S. do these 25 hp johnson with electric start motors have a charging system or do i need to charge it once in a while?
