25hp merc

Hi all. I have a 25hp mercury 2 stroke with electric start. The serial number is 9338774. I've checked 5 different websites and I can't figure out what year the motor is. Anyone have any idea on this? Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the first # is a 9? From what I can see 7 digit numbers were used up to and including 1985 with the highest numbers starting with a 7 for Canadian models and a 6 for US models. After that they # started with a letter followed by a 6 digit number.

I have a 1985 9.8 Merc with s/n 9394544 that was purchased new by my dad. Tag says it was made in Europe.
