Johnson 140 1990
I did something really dumb a few minutes ago. I was testing a new water pump and turned on my hose timer and then seriously lost track of time. First it didn't pee so i bumped the RPMs up a bit and it started cooling and i put it back in N. Shortly after the starboard head started to heat up some so I checked the hose and water was still massively pouring out of it so I went and bumped up the throttle again. Soon after the starboard head moved up to 180* so I shut it off and noticed that i must have just caught it *just* after the timer shut the hose off (fastest 10 minutes of my life apparently) while it was all still full of water and just flowing out.
I checked the port head and it was 278* at its hottest point :embarassed:
Yeah that was pretty dumb. It couldn't have been that hot for long at all. I guess that probably warrants a new set of head gaskets at least (perhaps a water pump it was brand new but 1800rpm with no water...) but is that hot enough to cause concern about warping the head? It couldn't have been running at that heat for for more than 30 seconds.
