OK... Back in town... Of course arriving to a couple inches of snow and 10?. However.... Pulled the outboard into the basement to play with my fuel line situation. I think I got it....

For now I removed that extra filter and the small piece of hose below it.... Took what was left... Kept it low, ran it under the front of the carburetor and have it a nice short loop into the carb....
Check my pics compared to the older ones and see if you think I got it right

There is still a small amount of air left in the line from before but I think getting it cranked should pull that through.... Once I opened the fuel switch 3/4 of the air disappeared

If the small amount of air in the line causes problems, then run the line over the carb instead of under it. Ideally you want gravity flow between the tank and float chamber of the carb with no air pocket.

As the inlet to the carb is vertical, it would be best if the fuel line passed over the top of the carb. Then any air in the line would be vented back to the tank and you would have gravity flow from the tank directly into the carb.

To run the motor, open the tank vent, open the fuel valve, pull the choke, and start the engine.

Also, it was good for you to post pictures of the motor which made it easy to see exactly how the fuel line ran. Hope you enjoy the motor.

Thanks! The fuel line comes out of the tank already below the inlet.... I'll try it the way it is and go from there. Should be able to try it out this afternoon.... If it runs a video will follow!

Sorry to spoil the party, mission impossible to double the speed achieved with the Kota, due to having a flat bottom, no keel, thin tubes inflated to less overall pressure and worst of all having a non rigid transom, just a simple floating engine mount. Mix these 4 tech issues, fully throttle engine and stern will surely flex along engine downwards losing top prop trust. It's the nature of that type of beast.

Had a Sevylor K-86 same type as the Mariner 4, installed a Merc 2.5 HP, although the sib was inflated to near seam burst and engine mount was modified to stand still the combo performed awfull at wot, too much flexing at sib's rear including engine mount and engine along. Better flat displacement with less flexing was achieved at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, will need to experiment for yourself which throttle range is best for your current set up. Post results for the record.

New to Forum..fantastic to see all the great minds, and high enthusiasm for the mariner.
bought the M3 last year,after months of research, primarly because of portability, and "fold up throw in back of small pick up " mentality. Followed many of your suggestions and vids to put a stable and very sturdy floor(primed painted , carpeted and surrounded by pipe insulation) My floor is 2 piece, splits in middle (about 27in by 47in) nothing holding them together. All to "handle" quick and easy with 15 min set up,with coleman inflator. Works perfect. I use the newer motor mount by Intex, and a 40lb thrust 36 in shaft minn kota. Again ..love ,love it all.
The question I have is with the motor depth. Is there a "best depth for ultimate performance" with the 36 in shaft. It is adjustable, easily...so when the water is shallower, I can pull it up. I have wondered,though, in deep steady water...what is best depth of lower end of TM? Or is there any difference? does it affect thrust and then performance, specifically motor battery drain? What say ye???? Any minn kota geniuses out there?

If i am not mistaken I believe 3.5 is max hp for the mariner. Just make sure you get a two stroke as the 4 might be to heavy. I think mrdrh is a good person to ask but. If you can get a 3.5 two stroke light weight motor it should pull your mariner fine. I still believe electric motors do not provide equal thrust to a gas engine i don't care if you have a kota 35 or a 85. Maybe just my bad experiences with them but a gas 3.5 will give you same performance from first drop of gas to the last. A battery tends to loose power rather quickly

I think a 4 stroke 4 hp motor is to heavy for that boat.
You would be looking at about 40 pounds.
That's a lot of weight.
You are also talking about the motor costing more than the boat.
A 2 hp 4 stroke will not have a reverse and will weigh about 30 pounds
If you go trolling motor your price I will be determine by where you use the boat.
Salt water engines cost more than freshwater engines

I have seen videos on YT with people using even 5.5hp. I wonder if it will put too much load and pressure on the back tubes?

The answer is yes.
You have to understand that they were 2 stroke engines.
There are very few 2 strokes being resold right now since the mandatory move to 4 strokes which are at least double the weight.
A 40 pound 4 stroke wouldn't last very long as the attached transome couldn't handle the weight or force if run wot

that is because either the tubes are not properly inflated or the engine is to heavy for the transom. i am telling you a 3.5 2stroke is best for the mariner

i picked up a 3.5hp 05 motor today. 2 stroke, simple and easy to use. i can carry it with one hand. tested on water and very happy so far! will take it out again this weekend.
