My 96 Volvo needs an alternator belt. When I looked at the set up, it looks like I have to remove/loosen part of the front motor mount. Do I need to support the engine? I do not have p/steering.
Am I missing something?

Can I just take the belt to NAPA or O'Reilly for replacement?

Thanks for the help!

i do not have a volvo, but on my motor there is a block that can be removed from one side of the front mount. this lets the other side still support the engine.

Thanks Hoot. Just curious. Is your engine a GM 4cyl? I see the "mount" you refer to. Larger (5/8") bolt? Do you take that bolt out and remove the spacer/block?

texsun, i have a 250 cu. in. IL6. you can go to butcha's post under 165 blowing oil and see what a 165 looks like. his first jpg shows how the mount and alternator look. just above the lower belt path there is a spacer held in by two bolts. on this motor the spacer is removed. and an auto parts store should have a belt to match up. take the old one in with you.

Removed two mounting bolts & installed new belt. The space at the front of my 174 Larson was so tight I had to do "a little carpentry work" to get one of the bolts to back out enough to clear. Thanks to Hoot for the help & the link to the photo. Made it crystal clear!
