So after I replaced the alternator belt on our 3.0 Alpha One and charged the battery, our '88 started like a champ. Once we got to our spot on the lake I noticed the temp gauge was at 220. I opened up the deck and noticed a small amount of smoke coming from the carb area (the carb was rebuilt before we put the boat in due to the fact it had water in it). I started the boat about 45 mins later and the gauge needle was buried. I had a friend tow us in a couple hours later. Once we got to the no-wake zone the boat ran at 160-this is where it usually is. Since we dock in about 3-4 feet of water I'm wondering if maybe the impeller is funky? We haven't bottomed out or kicked up much silt to speak of. But since this is our first summer with this boat there's no telling what the previous owner did. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it is time to pull the boat and change the impeller. If you see any sign of damage to the housing, change that too.

If you do not know the last time your impeller was serviced, you are far overdue. That's a start. It is probably time for a new thermostat too.

Thanks all! Any quick links to changing the the impeller would be appreciated-I can build a house just can't work on an engine.
