does this sound right I called the repair shop this morning and they said there was no way they could put enough water pressure on my motor to find out that I had a leak?

No it doesn't. Might want to find a new shop. In a way they are correct, because pressure testing the cooling system is done with air, not water. There is a Don S post that explains this, too but i couldn't find it. Essentially you remove the risers, block off the exhaust manifold, and pressurize the intake line to about 15-20psi. I can't remember any of the details... Nonetheless, it is my opinion that any competent tech would be familiar with this procedure and if your tech isn't...

I don't buy the "rain" theory. How well do you know the seller. Call em up and ask for the truth and nothing but the truth. I hope I'm wrong but it seems as if someone tired to dump their problem on you. That's a lot of water from a rainstorm. I suspect blown head gasket, cooling system, riser type of problem. Provided the water did not rust the motor from the inside out you should be okay, once you get this leak fixed. It did run afterall and seemingly ran well.

I have an 1988 Bayliner. After you figure out what's up with the motor, we need to talk about water intrusion in the hull, foam etc. With enough water to fill the boat, chances are you have water in places it shouldn't be. This means lots of extra weight and rot, rot, rot.

Welcome to iboats and boating. Sorry, things have started out so rough. I know all about it, used the boat twice so far, owned it almost a year. In the midst of a complete tear out and rebuild of floor and transom, thankfully my motor seems to be in good shape. This forum should prove to be quite valuable. Good luck!

Re: 3.0 under water

they didn't pressure test the motor what happen I bought this boat and the owner said he forgot to pull the drain plug and the back of the boat filled up with rain water he didn't tell me how high the water got after I get it home and try to start it it cranked very slow I bought a new battery and still nothing so I called him and asked him when was the last time he had it running he told me about 4 months and then he told me that the water was up to the back seats the motor sits under the seats so he told me to take it to the repair shop and get a price he paid them 675.89 and they said it was good to go after about 15 min. on the water I could here a ticking checked the oil and it's full of water again.
