OK, so I just ordered a new balancer for my 1987 3.0l motor, the old one came apart.
I am a long time car and motorcycle guy and I have a pretty good clue about boats as well.
Thing is, the balancer on this motor is pressed on, with no bolt. I can't see if the tapered hole in the crank snout is drilled and threaded or not.
My first instinct is to drill and tap the hole and use my balancer installation tool. I know this will not throw off the balance of the crank, but can anyone think of any reason not to do this, or a better way to install the balancer?
I do know enough to not hammer it on. I like my thrust bearings thank you.
Thanks for any help.
