Hi, just wondering if anyone has any tips on starting a 3.0L Mercruiser when engine is hot. It's fine when it's cold, just a pain when she's hot.

You may need a choke adjustment if you are having problems starting boat after it is warm. If mine gives me problems though I put it in neutral and open throttle about half. This will help if it is flooding.

Hot start does not need choke. It needs less or no choke so make sure the choke butterfly is standing straight up on a hot engine. When an engine is shut off, the temperature actually rises a bit before it begins to cool down. So always let the engine idle for a minute or two before shutting down, especially after a long hard run. This prevents run-on (commonly called dieseling) after the key is shut off and helps prevent fuel percolatin in the carb float bowl. The percolating fuel sends fuel vapors into the intake manifold where it puddles as it cools and causes a flooding scenario. Upon restart, always crack the throttle (use the throttle/shift disconnect button/leverl) to give the engine some air during the initial start..

mine did same adjust choke so it is always open lack of air . starts like a champ now. to prove it pull the arrestor and hold the choke open and it will go. agree on the letting it idle but choke are usually set to tight. i always throttle up some too but make sure you put it back down bfore engaging forward, i did that once because i was talking and couldnt figure out high idle, DOH!!!
