I have a mercruiser 3.0l that is about a 1987 with an alpha one drive. The block cracked and my neighbor had a spare 120 hp , 2.5l around a 1982 model that was crated with low hours in his shop. I bought it to put in my boat but realized the bellhousing motor mounts are different. Can i just swap bellhousings and use the 3.0l housing on the 2.5l they look like they will fit. Also would the coupler on this 120 hp be the same that would work with my alpha one . I dont think i can use the coupler i had on the 3.0l because the flywheels look different, it is larger. Please someone give me some answers im getting stressed! Thanks

Re: 3.0l mercruiser to 2.5l swap problems

I have a 2.5l also and want to replace it with a 3.0L(cracked block). I have been reading about the conversion and it seems you need a differnt flywheel because of the bolt pattern and a coupler also. Everything else should be fine. Try this website: www.michiganmotorz.com, they tell what you need for the conversion. Hope this helps.
