First thing I did when I bought my boat was to put that tube/screen out and replace it with a solid OPEN ENDED tube.... Then I put a proper external water sep fuel filter on. That way I don't have problems with the screen getting clogged, all the crap is caught where is should be, in the filter, which is changed at the service...

Suggest you might like to do the same....

The pick up tube screen is at the end of the pick up tube that goes into the tank and that hole tube feeds the line that goes to the fuel pump at the top of that tube is generally the anti siphon valve u can remove it and make sure the ball and sometimes spring are moving freely along with not having any blockage from debri .

Alright,

So I am trying to understand (sorry still new...lol)...

Does the anti siphon valve come straight off the tank? Chris, I have a water/fuel separator, that is inline with the tank and fuel pump. I do not know where the tube/screen is even located. That was my initial thought when I started having these problems, were any debris that was in the tank is starting to clog things up, which is why I replaced every filter that is on the thing, but I didn't know there was a screen. It sucks the previous owner must have re-did the floor or something, becuase there is no access to the top of the tank...so I will most likely have to do some cutting and make some sort of access door...

Ive read that 75% of these issues are caused by that anti-siphon valve, I just have yet to be able to locate it...lol...mostly because I was trying to avoid cutting into the floor...

Sounds like you're going to have to take to the floor with a sabre saw... The screen we're on about is usually on the end of the pickup tube in the fuel tank. For some reason (that totally escapes me ) tank manufacturers insist on putting a screen (like a coarse filter) on the end of the pickup. It does stop larger chunks of debris getting sucked up, but eventually it holds so much rubbish that the pump has a hard time pulling fuel... The anti-syphon valve (we don't use them in Australia... fuel goes up hill here you know :D:p) is usually in the fuel line close to the tank. It's purpose it to stop fuel flow if it starts to be a bit too high. The idea is that as the fuel line usually lays in the bottom of the boat if the line was cut the fuel would be syphoned out of the tank and into the bilge... This can lead to some 'exciting' activity... Maybe that's why they call it an anti-syphon valve :p :D.... The main problem with them is they get over zealous at their job and shut the fuel off prematurely... Leading to run problems... or no fuel at all... If the tank is bottom feed (the feed to the engine comes from the bottom of the tank... Throw it out and get a top feeder... much safer.

Hey thanks! That has probably been the best explanation yet about the anti-siphon valve and tank area I have read yet. It drives me nuts having to cut into the floor, not looking forward to it at at all....almost been debating on just replacing the floor if I had to go to those measures...lol, but that is not something that I want to get into right now, seems more like a winter project. But I guess I could just notch it out where I need to get to and finish it up this winter...

I thought for sure this boat was a steal, it runs/ran GREAT when it was in his driveway...haha

Kind of unrelated-I just noticed that it looks like a lag bolt is missing from the front engine mount in the pic with the fuel filter. Is that steel plate in front of the mount holding it in place? I would just hate to see the engine break loose. I'm pretty new to this whole thing, but I thought I would mention it just in case.

All this makes for an interesting discussion and speculation... but before you go and cut up your deck, be sure to run it on a remote fuel tank first. If it runs the same then you know the issue is not your anti-siphon valve or the screen, etc.

If you do end up having to cut your deck, simply install a deck plate so you can access it in the future. Something like this:

Hey buddy , ya might wanna try replacing the resistor wire on the pos side of your ign coil. The real old models used a ballast resistor made with that ceramic block mounted on a brkt. This eng you got has a resistor wire instead. Useually what happens is when the eng is cold everything works fine however as the eng heats up this wire starts breaking down ,resistance becomes to high so rather your ign coil needing 9 to 10 volts to fire ,it's now getting 7 or 8 volts an falling. Soon theres not enough voltage to light off your ign syst. Kinda why they say when your alt fails , turn off all acessories to conserve batt power so ya can get to the house before that sucker cuts off. I cant remember what the risistance should be when ya check it with a multi meter ,but im sure you can find it on line or carry it to a good technician in your area. Oh yea ,i'v found that a good indication of a bad resistor wire , is an owner can almost tell when its going to start cutting out by watching his temp gauge. When that temp reaches 120 or 135 it will go to missing. Anyway i thought ya might wanna take a look at it. Good luck

Hey thanks! That sounds about right too...unfortunately I have about a 25 minute trip to the lake before I can get on it and test it, so by that time it is already warmed up....sitting at the dock when I first launch it, it revs up just fine in neutral...so that could also be an issue I am having....
