3.0LX Remove/Replace - Alignment Tool?

I'm assuming that when the 3.0LX engine is removed and replaced, there's no getting around the necessity of the alignment tool. Anyone know if you can rent these things as it would be somewhat of a waste to purchase for a one time use... It's mentioned in the Merc manual as part 91-805475A1.

Also - are there any washers or other pieces that should definitely be replaced on an engine remove/replace?

Howdy,

Well, they aren't really that expensive.... and if you know someone with a lathe you can spend about $20 on a piece of 1.375" steel and make one.

Since you should pull the drive once every 1 or 2 years it's pretty nice to have one. (I know a guy that rented one from a Merc dealer......it was bent)

You can also buy them all day long on ebay for anywhere from $40-60.

Yeah you can get the dimentions/specs right from here where i did, i may still have them i can look if your interested in having a machine shop make one. I did for 30.00. Cheaper than destroying bearings/etc. ;)

See attachment. This was what i needed for my MC-1 So maybe a more of a tech guy can verify that this is the right one for your setup. it does have the 1.375 area on it but i'm not sure if the pilot or other demrntions are corrct for yours. Anyone?

Well, I lost access to a machine shop when I left my last job... I may just pick one up on eBay. Thanks for the info.

Any "gotchas" I may look out for when pulling this thing? I'm hoping to have this engine rebuilt, but it may not be suited for a rebuild... it's already a reman engine. I'll need to hear back from the machine shop before I know.

Put it in forward.
Read the OEM manual. If you don't have one, head up to the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum and get one.
