I've been reading around a lot lately because I laid up after surgery. Well in all of my searching I've found a lot of boaters dont like this motor. Its my first boat so I dont know any better. But it seems like a lot of roders like this motor. They're doing some pretty crazy stuff with them. My question is has anyone does any modification on thier boat with these motors? Or just tossed them and repowered their boats?

One thing I thought about changing is taking apart the cam drivin water pump and installing an electric one. Would this work?

Why bother? A few hours work, Speedi-sleeves and new seals and you are good for another 10 years. Now if you want to spend some money, slap on an aluminum head.:D

the tool to install the rotor cost $145

Their tool costs $145. The tool to install my balancer (rotor?) is a long 1/2 inch fine thread bolt, a nut, a few washers, and a little grease: cost 3 bucks.:D

If you want to remove the engine impeller, you need to pull the stator anyway?

You still have the seals on the cam to deal with unless you plan to redesign the engine.

All this work will gain you zero HP=00?

bad idea
Spend the money in something like an improved charging system, chartpoltter, or a new VHF.

The idea behind removing the impeller was to keep coolant away from a place where seals are known for going bad. I do want to do the alternator swap but I think I can make the bracket for less. The kits that cost $500, it doesnt make any sense.
