3 HP MODEL:5D10V

I have a old motore that has been passed down to me that hasn't been started in 20 years. I filled it full of gas the other day and it started. I have a few leaks in it that I would like to fix.<br /><br />The only manual that came with it was a Johnson motore parts catalog 1958 for a 18 HP Model FD-FDL-12. I know this is not the correct manual but it seems quite similar as to the parts organization and placement.<br /><br />I would like to get a operators and parts manual for the model I have. Any help would be appreciated. I dont even know the year of this motor.

John<br /><br />Double check that model # 5D10V again. Can't seem to come up with that year with that number/letter combo.... Is that from the transom bracket plate??

More information on the motor: <br /><br />On closer inspection of this motor I can just make out the name of "Eatons Viking" that is painted on the housing. <br /><br />On comparing the motor with the "18 HP 1958 Johnson parts catalog" that I have the physical layout is very similar. That is why I think it might be made by Johnson.<br /><br />I obtained the model and serial number off the motor transon plate. <br /><br />I am assuming that it is a 3 HP but I might be mistaken as the number is not clear it might be a 5. The whole line on the transom plate reads "? HP OBC certified <br />BHP at 4000 RPM" as I said the HP is either 3 or 5 as the number is stamped on and is not very clear.

John - Back when that outboard was built, OMC had three marine divisions - Johnson, Evinrude, and Gale. Needless to say, the outboards were all very similiar.<br />Gale didn't sell outboards directly, but rather through distributors like Mongomery Wards, and even Goodyear Tire corp. They also sold engines to Eaton's (Canada), who in turn sold it as an Eaton's Viking outboard.<br />I suspect what you have there is a 15D10V (1960 15hp), a 3D10V ('51-'53 3hp) or a 5D10V ('51-'54 5hp). The 15hp is nearly identical to the 18hp, but the 5hp is similairly configured to the 18hp too.<br />To be sure, the 5hp weighs about 44lbs and the 15hp should weigh around 65lbs. <br />The Gale 15hp would be mechanically very similair to a mid-50's 15hp Johnson or Evinrude, and the 5hp would be very similair to the Johnson TD 5.0hp engines of the late forties and early fifties.<br /><br />Good luck!<br /><br /> Fifty-four 'Rudes (including a 15hp) <br /> 1950 Johnsons, including the 5.0hp
