I have removed the crankshaft pulley on my 1988 3 liter mercruiser to replace the timing gear cover. All went pretty well but I hope someone can give me some info on getting the pulley back on the crankshaft without beating it on with a hammer. I'm sure beating it on will do damage to bearings etc., I removed it with a harmonic balancer puller but I dont see a way to get it back on using this tool. Can some body help me with this please. Thanks in advance.

Most local auto parts places will rent you a harmonic balancer installation tool for free, with a fully refundable deposit to cover the cost of the tool of course....

well its your choice. contrary to the misinformation vinney said in the last post I am self employed and have all my own workmans comp and general liabilty and I have since 93 or so. it can be beat on but beating it can damge things without the proper tools. I always use the proper tool that does not require hammering. I have seen balencer failures and none were pretty but I have also seen many hammered on with no worries. roll the dice and hope it dont come up 3"s.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Thanks Rodbolt. I couldnt find an appropriate tool so I hammered it on as gently as possible. It wasnt easy so i hope I didnt screw anything up. I am doing a lot of work on the boat so i wont be able to fire it up for a day or two. i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
