I was under the console today wiring in a horn and came across four unused wires in the engine harness. All four had male spade terminals and were heat shrinked to protect the wire ends Pretty normal for unused wires from the factory.

But I'm trying to figure out what the heck they are.

2 are pretty simple purple = 12v power
the others ??????

One is black with a brown tracer stripe and appears to be joined to all the other ground wires.

Last one is grey with a res tracer stripe. This one has me puzzled. Grey is normally for a tach signal. but the red tracer stripe is something I haven't seen before.

Any ideas

Wiring Color Codes

Black / Brown Alternator charge light
Pumps (bilge, live-well, etc.)
Reference Electrode -

On the grey/red wire, Do you also have just a solid grey wire?

No there is not a plain grey wire.

I've looked at at least 10 different color code charts and have not found grey/red. And it is definitely part of the factory harness.

Most likely it's the tach but to be safe, Maybe you could ohm check it back to the engine.

well i went out and looked at the engine end of the cable. It was solid grey at that end. So I dug further. took out a cup holder and there it was. A 16 pin connector, likely put there by tracker. Grey wire on one side, grey/red on the other.
