I am trying to figure out the year of this outboard. I think it may be an '84. But not really sure. I would also like to know of a good online parts source. I am having difficulty finding some parts. Any help will be much appreciated.

Gday mate,
I've got a jap mariner 30 as well. They were made by Yamaha, much better than the American built ones (1994 and after). As suspected yours is comnfirmed to be 1984, check done on:
http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/mp/mar30.htm

For parts, prferably go to your local yamaha dealer. If not then a Mercury dealer.
Online use:
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectSerailRange.asp?doc_nbr=30A
and select your applicable serial range.

As a final resort you can also try the Yamaha America website which has part schematics for their models and try to guess which Yamaha outboard your Mariner was based on. MOST PARTS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. Only certain ones applicable to your model are. For example, my 1993 Japanese Mariner 30 uses a lot of parts from the 1991 or 1992 Yamaha C30.
