can anyone tell me how to wire a tachometer to my 1970 33hp evinrude. also what model tachometer should i buy. thanks in advance

Hello Tommy.<br />Connect 12V +/- to the tach, and the pulse terminal on the tach, shall be connected to your rectifirers primary side.<br />You can use diff. kind of tach. as long the settings on the back side of the tach is correct. If you find a tach, where there are settings for 2,3,4,5 and 6 pol. the set the setting at 4 (your motor have 4 pole)

Tommy's motor has the magneto ignition system, so there's no rectifier and so it doesn't work with a regular outboard tach.<br /><br />There's two options, the simplest and least expensive is usually a tiny tach from tinytach.com. Phone their 1-800 number to get the recommended part number.<br />The second option is to find an old tach on ebay, which connects to one of the kill switch lines. It must be a tach for older Johnsons/Evinrudes with magneto igntion w/ no charging system.
