I am thinking of buying a 35 hp rude model number 35752H. Can any one tell me what year that is? Also he says it runs but has low compression on one cylinder. Is that more than likely a head gasket or bad rings?

it's a 1977 possible head gasket, or rings, you never know till the head is pulled. if only a slight difference in readings, you can try a decarb before tearing it down, this may free up the rings. here's the proper manuals

Is the paint discolored from overheating? The 1976 would overheat if it got anywhere near weeds. Then for 1977 they changed the water intake a bit and they were some better. But they didn't really get it fixed till 1980 when they moved the intake to the sides of the gearcase.
