350 mercruiser

Ive got a 350 mercruiser that runs great at WOT but the engine seems to surge/hunt at 2500 to 3000 rpm , my fuel pressure is at 38 psi and then drops to around 34 psi under load . Any ideas ?

Is it a MPI or EFI?

with 34-38 psi, your a bit low for a standard 3-bar fuel system. I would first look at the fuel filter, then the regulator, then the fuel pump itself. the fact that the fuel pressure drops when under load indicates your running out of fuel
