Are these shot? To me they look like they have collapsed or failed with that much bolt protruding out the top and how close the two parts are.Photo Jan 04, 9 23 40 AM.jpgPhoto Jan 04, 9 24 01 AM.jpgPhoto Jan 04, 9 25 31 AM.jpg

In your case they are worn out. When they are good it is possible to freely rotate the fiber washer between the transom bracket and flywheel housing.

I agree, in a normal install where they are not glued in place they will spin,
If failed the drive would be difficult to slideoff

I figured since the front mounts are fully extended to get some alignment. Gimball bearing is worn out too; probably from these mounts failing. I have an alignment tool but since it is cold as hell outside I have not rolled the boat out to check that (boat is up against the shop wall)

Ok, I started the process of removing the engine to get new mounts but I am confused. Starboard side the fiber washer did spin freely and it and the spring inside it came out easily. Once out there is no contact between the flywheel cover and the transom plate. For the port side (one in pictures) I had to pry up that side of motor to remove fiber washer/spring. Once out the flywheel cover set right down on the transom plate on that side. I loosened the port side front mount (top nut completely off) but no amount of messing with bottom not would lift the port aft mount up like the starboard side. Also the alignment tool does not slide into the coupler at all at this point; before it was tight, just a bit out of spec.
Do the two front mounts carry most the engine weight? and the aft weight rides on those two coiled springs?
It does not take much at all to lift the rear of the engine...a flat head in between the port aft mount will do it.
Is this right part? Amazon

Motor is out and I have pressed out the old aft mounts (pretty easy). Whole can of worms now: Might as well replace other two mounts, ring gear has about 10-12 chewed up teeth, exhaust manifolds all plugged up with gunk, missing bolts-guess this is what you get with a 45yo motor that has been 'messed with'IMG_8829.heic.jpeg

Ayuh,...... Get yerself a can of Quicksilver Power Tune, to spray all over the new bushings, 'n they'll press in, almost as easy as the ole rotten ones came out,.....
