i have a problem getting started but when i get it started it runs fine. i am getting fuel, getting fire (checked by timing light but might not be enough fire.) brand new sparkplugs, two week old condenser, points are set right, timing is about 8 deg. before tdc. bought a new resistor and new coil resently. the last time i went out it finally didnt start at all after being running all day. im stumped. starting fluid doesnt even help to get it started.

It it won't hit on ether (A REALLY bad thing to use, BTW), you have an ignition problem.

The "about 8 degrees" is kinda scary.....it should be nutz on....

ok i think i might have it figured out. i have a 12 volt coil not the stock 9 volt. do i need the ballast resistor with a 12 volt coil? i take the resistor out of the mix and it fires on the first revolution. is the the ballast resistor to keep the coil from burning up, or to keep from burning the points and condensor? if it is to keep the coil safe i shouldnt need it since its a 12v coil.
