thanks y'all, rolmops do you know what the brown wire is also. Finally had a chance to get back on the board- 40 hours of honey do's for 2 hours of working on the old boat.

Hello fish bait.<br />Consider yourself lucky that it is only forty hours.<br />Do you mean the brown wires in the "starter" box where the starter solenoid is?<br />If so. The brown wire is the one that would go from the regulator(which if you have it would be on the inside of your box cover) to a 20 amp fuse on the little fuse board and from there into the harness that goes to the front of your boat to the starter push button and the choke button which by the way also acts as the shut of on this engine.If on that little dash board up front you have an ammometer.Then that is what your brown wire is connected to.Through the ammometer it would supply power to your battery.<br />Since you have mentioned the 2 LOOSE wires .I think that in your case the brown wire is disconnected and covered in plastic right where the Ammometer would be.And instead of the ammometer you probably have a little round seahorse decal.<br />Let me know if this is what you needed.<br />

I didn't get time to work on it yesterday- the brown wire laying under the carb is not covered w/ plastic like the other two - I will check out the info you gave me this evening. The voltage box has all wire connected if I remember right but has no fuses. Is it ok for me to email you if I get stuck. hello again.<br />If the brown wire is light brown and not connected to anything.Then it probably was yellow some eons ago<br />If it is brown and connected to the bottom of the carburator, then it is the remote choke wire that goes up to your little dash board.<br />The best thing for you to do is to go out and buy yourself a manual and repair book for your outboard .There is Clymer,Seloc and factory manuals.Seloc is, at least in my opinion, the most user friendly, specially for beginners. No matter how much online communication, it does not come close to having a book at hand .<br />good luck.
