Hello
I'm working on a 3hp Johnson from the 53-54 age group.
I got this motor from a friend that the first day he got it we were out on the lake and it stopped and wouldn't turn over Locked up tight. We thought it locked up for good.
Well it sat in his shed for about 3 years and we were cleaning up around his yard hauling away scrap and such well he started to add it to the pile on his trailer.
Well I grabbed it! I let is sit another 2 years before I even did anything to it. Later found out one of the coils was hitting the flywheel was all.
Then sat for awhile again.
Figure I might as well get this thing running not that I need it, just that things should be able to run in case you do.
Well after dealing with a no spark issue in one cylinder and filed points and cut the plug wires back on both ends 1/4" then the other side started to do the same thing. Thank goodness everything was still loose. Well its now has good spark.
But the other problem was when I put gas in it it just poured out the carb.
So take the carb apart the float is the ugliest nastiest float I have seen!
Its a jw-10 3hp Johnson
I found a carb kit if the numbers are correct
carb kit# 439071
Can't find the numbers for the float though.
Can anyone help me there?
Last thing I just can't seem to get the fast idle screw to turn soaked it with PB-Blaster a penetrating oil for a couple days.
Its now sitting in carb solution, was going to check it today but didn't get around to it. An extra day won't hurt it anyway!
But does anyone have any suggestions on getting this screw out? Or have a float bowl laying around they just don't need?
Thanks,
