I have a 1993 4.3 with electric fuel pump and the white plastic piece that pushes down onto the pump to make the electrical connection is no good. The negative female connector is broken off inside of that white removable piece. Can that part be bought separately? Sure hope so as the pump is rather expensive!!

I'm guessing you mean the connection block marked as b in this scematic drawing?

How did the female spade connector break? It's not a difficult fix, I don't know the connection block configuration but the connector should pull out, if not I'm sure you could get it out and replace the female connector. It is only an electrical connection after all and not something which will cost you a great deal.

If you mean it's broken off inside the connector at the pump, then pull it out and solder it back into place at the other connector wire........carefully so as not to melt the plastic surround too much. Alternatively once you have removed the female from the male, you may be able to work the female connector wire back into place once you have soldered it back into place or you have replaced it with a new one.

Re: 4.3 fuel pump question

No, it is the piece above "b" that "b" would plug into. It is the white piece on the picture above. It pushes down onto the top of the pump. There are 2 posts recessed into the top of the pump and the white connector has female plugs built into it that concect when its pushed down onto the pump.
The engine died on me the other day and everything pointed to faulty pump which I removed and wired directly to 12 volts with small jumper clips....nothing. I pulled off that white connector/plug and could see right away what the problem was...broken off connector that stayed on the neg. post on the pump. It cant be soldered because the connections travel THROUGH that hard white plastic piece that "b" in the diagram would plug into.
Even if someone had an old pump that was no good kickin around I would gladly take that piece that I need....It just pops off the top of the pump.

Re: 4.3 fuel pump question

Last call for anyone????????

Ayuh,.... My motors got a pump like that,..

The original had a problem like yer's,....
So, I bought another off ebay,... it leaked,... cracked from somebodyelse over-tightening it...

Then I pulled that piece apart like you did, 'n fixed it,.... soldiered, 'n done,...

Once I'd aired out the other 1, 'n the gas fumes went away,...
I migged the crack in the neck, 'n now have a spare on-board...;)

This voyage through life, started when the original wouldn't work,.... til ya tapped it...
Then it ran Perfectly for the day...
My ole Salmon Knocker knocked the fuelpump, more than Salmon,...

Since I fixed the original, 'n the spare, I haven't had a single fuel pump problem....
