Re: 4.3 ice?

I live in southern Ontario, near Georgian bay. It was stupidly cold this winter, and I am getting the impression that there is a much greater number of cracked manifolds and blocks this year than usual (I called around about 4.3 blocks, lots of people looking for them this spring). I am finding even the marina's can half-*** the procedure and not completely drain them or (like mine was) suck up some RV antifreeze and hope for the best. In a few weeks I can get in touch with the new owners of the marina..

I've been thinking in the back of my mind what if they did a poor job and my block is cracked. I don't quite understand why but the marina also just started using antifreeze having always used the 'air don't freeze' method for years. Makes me wonder.

Only one way to find out. Fire it up in the driveway, plenty warm for a test fire.

you can always fire it up,, pull the block and manifold plug and drain it... will take you about 2 mins........."air dont freeze", used this method this past winter up here in the north east.......... it works!, my engine is fine...

I've read a few posts saying they ran on the garden hose for a long time without problems, only when they got on the lake did the oil turn milky:mad-new:

time will tell...

To nick's point, if it fails in the driveway then I would call that a catastrophic event! Out on the water is the only way to get the block stress-tested, definitely.
