You may be have a leak inside your carb and flooding your engine(fouling your spark plugs) causing you to have to crank the heck out of it to get it to start. Again this could be a heavy or a un-adjusted float or bad needle and seat.

To diagnose this, prop open the choke and try your normal start up procedure when cold...

I did have my friend hold the choke wide open while I cranked, still same result. I think it may be leaking then fouling the plugs because I pulled the plugs and they are fouled. we even got a little squirt bottle and when the engine turned over for that second we squirted gas into the carb and it still stalled. you would think that would keep it going for a bit. unless its totally flooding it out.

also forgot to add that there is black smoke coming out of the exhaust for the brief moment the engine starts.

could a clogged fuel water seperator have something to do with this?, I cleaned the carb, little black chunks of dirt came out. Engine still doing the same thing, starting and stopping

Some people are saying that it could be my ignition switch, anyone know how to bypass that somehow to see if thats the problem?

You can go to the "Adults Only" sticky at the top of the forum and click on item 2.... JJ and Dons have a trouble shoot post you should read.
FWIW my safety shut off with the cord on it will let my engine start and run as long as the key is in start even if the cord is unhooked..... as soon as you release the key to run the engine will die. Good luck.

Is it possible the fuel pump is going?

(although spraying gas into the carb would bypass the fuel pump)
