4.3 Questions

I want to repower a 23'er I have a 190hp 4.3 4brl carb engine in my 21'er and loved it. Wondering where or if i can get a 4.3 carburated that can put out atleast 230 hp for the 23'er? Any reasonable good engine dealers that are recomended? thanks

23', you need a 5.7,
5.0 MINIMUM.
4.3 was kind of wimpy in a couple 21's and 22's I've run.

A 5.0 is 220-225 hp so i figured if i could get a 4.3 220 hp I had good luck with mine and was really fuel efficient a little lighter. My 4.3 4brl carb 1988 engine in my 21.5' Slickcraft Hardtop goes real good. 35-40 mph 4miles/gal. It's a fairley heavy boat too. Just throwing it out there for opinions Don. A 23' Formula should be atleast 250hp i guess. I'm more out for reliability and efficiency rather than speed, Thanks

A 4.3 on that size boat is always going to be working hard. A 5.7 would be working normally and would use less gas at the same speed (NOT rpm) as a 4.3.

I'd be dropping twin 5.7s in that puppy!!!

Oh, and I agree with everything Don said. They are a heavy boat and need the torque that only a V8 can produce. I have the MPI 4.3 and am a little disappointed with the mid-range torque. I've had to prop down to get the thing to work properly.

Ayuh,... It's Achris.....

You'll need a 96 or newer 4.3l to build that kinda power.... That's when the Vortec heads came about...
Or,..
You could put Vortecs on an older 1 I guess...
It'll be close to 230hp...
Although, Myself, I'd go with the 350 like the guys said...
