He's been living in the boat ever since his wife found out he raided her manicure fund to pay for parts.

Walt you are not far off the truth, My wife decided I needed to do some projects for her, so as soon as I finish remodeling and fix the hot tub (so she doesn't kick me out), I can get the boat ready for the season. I ordered McGuires restoration kit to take care of some oxidation. After I welded the lifter crack, I tried to turn the motor over and it wouldn't move. I'm going to try one last time and tap on the cylinder with a wooden dowel to see if it will free up. I sprayed the cylinders with WD-40 when I pulled the intake. Not looking good right now, to save it.

I've been looking at these motors on Ebay that are rebuilt by Center State in Florida and thing of dumping the money into a complete unit for about $3500.

I will be pulling my motor soon, so I don't know about any alignment issues. I'm guessing you have a socket wrench on the pulley and are slowly turning it as you are guiding it in. Could also be the starter that is giving you problems getting it in there. I'd be glad to help if you are not too far away.

Anyone have experience with center State?

Winter was a great time to tackle that engine...clocks a ticking! Anyway, Look for a local engine rebuilder and and buy a long block (cheaper than a remaufactured or OEM (assuming all the heads, intake, risers are new/good? Or buy a 4.3L out of a truck and have rebuilt by a local machine shop (you most likely only need lower end). My guy locally would charge about $900 for 4.3L short block!

well got it aligned yesterday then it got to cold and windy to work outside , you have to pull the out drive off to pull your engine and you use a alignment bar to re-install and align it .
I think it is a good idea to get a rebuild with everything but back on if you can . the removal and replacement is not very hard .just make sure you take a lot of pictures of all the connections for everything [ I didn't and now regret it ]pay attention to the control cables and wiring.
