4.3l swap question

I am in the process of restoring a 1988 sylvan 188 barritz. I am swapping the original 4.3 out with a 4.3 from a 1998 bayliner. I also installed a 4bbl intake and carb. The new motor only has four ports on the thermostat housing and the old one has six. The new one only has the one hose to each manifold and not to the risers like the old motor. Will the risers from the old engine work? Do I just need to plug that port that the hose goes to? Or do I need to change over to the old thermostat housing and run the hoses?

I would recommend changing over to the newer style cooling system. To do this you would use the 4 port thermostat and single hose to each manifold.

You can install the older style on your newer motor, but would take more plumbing

Thank you. I will pull the fittings out of the risers and plug the holes.

your new motor is also balance shafted, use the solid mounts from the new motor vs the squishy mounts from the old motor

I didn't receive any mounts with the motor. Is it critical to change them out, or was it just for vibration isolation in the non-balance shaft engine? Will it hurt anything to run the soft mounts?
