In the process of converting to 2 piece manifolds and was fixing an overheat issue. Figured I'd swap the t-stat while I'm at it, but I'm sure it was working fine, before.

I'm not sure what normal looks like, but I'd appreciate if any of you experienced folks would kindly comment on these pics:

Water drained from engine was certainly rusty colored. The 1-piece manifolds were rusted.

I assume I should replace those bolts, but if they look that bad... what about the block?

Anything else I should be doing while I'm in there?

the hoses all look ok, but have a little rusty slime in them...

Is the rust in the engine block, or just the manifolds? Is that normal? or what is normal?

thanks!

I'd say everything seems to have a normal look to it. Just do a basic clean up on everything you can and put it back together, you'll be fine.

Didn't you say in another thread that this boat ran in saltwater?

You can test the thermostat by placing it in a pan of hot water.
It will open when heated above it's rated temperature. Typically 160F.
