Good afternoon!
I am new to this forum but i am in need of some help. I bought a 1996 maxum sr2 bowrider last night and have just 1 problem. The prop that is currently on the motor is this 5 bladed prop, i dont have any specs on it right now but I took it out last night and realized that this is a terrible propeller for this motor. If you are idling slow and then gun it, the rpms of the motor spins up and you can hear the prop spinning fast, sounds like its cavitating. Once on plane, you have to keep the motor trim all the way down... which causes you to have a bad ride in the boat, bouncing across the water. Once I trim up the slightest bit it sounds like it starts cavatating again. Soooo my question is what propeller would be ideal for this boat? 3 blade or 4? and what pitch and all that other good stuff. Any info would be helpful and I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Well Erie,......

Welcme Aboard to the forums here at iboats,........

A little further down the Main Page is the Prop Forum......

You'll get Much Better Advice down there,.......
But,......
You're going to have to know the Pitch of That 1,+ your WOT, RPMs for much Help......

Just Guessing,.......
A 19" or 21" standard Aluminum prop would probably Do Just Fine.........

I don't even want to know how long you ran it at 7K RPM but that can kill a 4.3l very fast. Something sounds fishy here, are you sure the trim gauge is accurate and that the drive was down, a five blade prop is usually a higher end prop built for lots of holeshot and not a lot of top end. Also I would be very surprised if your 4.3L was causing a 5 blade prop to slip or cavitate, the 5 bladers usually have tons of bite unless it is a 14 or 15 pitch prop which I doubt.
