I am looking to buy a used (1996) wellcraft excel, and can't find info on the engine. It is a mercruiser with a 4.3lxgen+. I have searched all the repair manuals I can lay my hands on and questioned the dealer (the boat is brokered). Thanks for your earlier reply Bondo, but I would like to know what the 3rd shaft is for and if should avoid this engine for repair cost,or general problems.

Thanks in advance jim

I'm not sure I got all nessary information but here goes, the engine 4.3 has three shafts
#1 cam shaft (normal thing to have)
#2 balance shaft- used in some engines to cancel out vibrations
#3 crank shaft (normal also)

Hello, It will come with a plus. It will idle smoother with less vibration. Sounds like a plus to me! ;)
