Boat dealer said they are the same; Yamaha head and Merc lower on both. Just paint, covers diffrent. Haven't seen this on the many posts I've read. Any one know for sure? Thanks in advance.
Apologies, need to clarify. Looking at only 6, 8 and 9.9hp. BTW: They hd a price for a 8hp, but the Mercury manual does not show an 8hp....any insight appreciated.
Merc makes their own block and uses Yamaha internals including the head. Depends on the year. They've evolved from all Yamaha to various mixtures of the two. Now they're kinda at war with each other. Strange stuff going on at the corporate level right now.
they used each others materials for while, it was advantagous for both but (with two kids on a <br />block...soner or later there going to get into it.) <br />if this is a merc vs yamaha just go to a marine mechanic and ask who he has to fix all the time.
