Newbie question:

While boat motor shopping, I have noticed that a 4 strokes run about 30% more than their equivalent HP 2 stokers.

Any advantages to warrant the extra money?

Thanks

Once you have used a 4 stroke, Marty, there will be no more question in your mind.

They cost more and weigh more, but I wouldn't go back and I doubt that you would.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

martyscher:

Personally, I think there is. The next motor I get will be a 4-stroke or an i/o depending if I keep the boat or trade for a Reinell 181 (My dream boat). 4-stroke is much quieter, less quiet as the rpm's increase than the 2-stroke. No playing chemist with the oil in the fuel or oil res. or wundering if the oil injection system is working right. Better for the inviroment and better economy. Don't get me wrong, I love my 2-stroke Merc 140, but if I could right now, I'd get a 4-stroke Merc 115 in a heartbeat.

Good luck in your choice.

Craig

I traded in my 130 johnson 2 stroke for a merc 115 4 stroke efi last summer and I love it. I would never go back to a 2 stroke. :)

Yea, I am sold on 4-stokes too.

The only time I personally would buy a 2 stoke would be when weight of the motor was absolutely critical to be as light as possible.

Like a really small pond boat or something like that.
