Ok first thing what is the difference between tilt and trim? I have an 89 40 hp yamaha sitting on a ali 14 foot boat. My question is should the electric trim or tilt be able to lift the motor under power. At the moment i have to slow down to almost neutral to tilt the motor up, this is a new boat to me so not sure what is normal. Any help on this would be appreciated. cheers:confused:

A power tilt and trim unit will normally move the motor slowly during the trim part to allow you to make small adjustments to the motor's angle while under way. The tilt is just to pick the motor up while not running and moves at a faster rate. If yours does not have the 2 speeds then I would say it does not have the power trim ,just power tilt. It does not have a 2 speed motor , it just has a different way of handling the hydrolics.
