Re: 40 horse evinrude..(selectric shift) button rebuild

Re: 40 horse evinrude..(selectric shift) button rebuild

With the motor not running and the key turned on, yes, the forward and reverse buttons should "lock" the prop. In neutral it should spin freely.

so in reverse with the key on it should not rotate clockwise or counterclockwise?

same in forward?

previous thread said one way in reverse and the other way in forward.

thanks

If the motor is running, yes, the prop should rotate when you push the buttons - I think it's clockwise in forward and counterclockwise in reverse. If you just press the button with the motor not running, it will lock the prop as the solenoid locks down on the propshaft. You can turn the flywheel with the button pushed, and the prop should turn.

Re: 40 horse evinrude..(selectric shift) button rebuild

as a followup to my older post, I started having problems again with the switch, no reverse. I drilled a 1/8th hole in the side above the blank terminal and sprayed it inside with carb cleaner while working the pushputtons. it fixed it for now, headed to the lake and will let you know. These older motors are sometimes a PIA to keep going.
