My 40hp starts okay after choking when cold...once warmed up starts good, but at low trolling speed sometimes will sputter and die. runs fine at wot(no sputter or misses that I can detect)..what could be some of the problem areas?
Try choking the motor when it sputtering and getting ready to die. If this improves the performance it is probably fuel related. Sounds like either water in the gas or crap in the carb. It could be as simple as a mixture adjustment or taking carb apart and cleaning it. If motor is running good at WOT your fuel pump is probably okay. Check all fuel lines for a tight fit. If fuel lines are real stiff you might want to consider replacing them as well. A Carb rebuild kit is availible from NAPA auto parts for about 15 bucks. The part number is 18-7037
