I have searched the site and found others have have had the same problem or are knowledgable - mpiorko, Markham_Boater, alcan, and whitewolf. I have worked and I am about 95% sure that I am low on fluid. My question is there are two screws, one at the top and one at the bottom. What is the correct fluid and what is the correct process to refill the cylinder? Thanks.
Serial: G 03034190
Model: VE40TELENM

Hey 3Daughterman...I only got two....welcome to iboats.

If this is a tilt assist cylinder, not Trin & Tilt, remotely controled, there is no fluid to add. The cylinder is non-repairable.

What is doing or not doing?

Re: 40 HP, 1992 Tilt Assist Cylinder

I pulled the cable off and checked the cable and all appurtanances and the problem from which I can see is that the valve that the cable pulls is too strong to lift in order to release the piston. The manual doesn't show anything except the entire "tilt assist cylinder" as a whole. The local boat dealer simply said, " I dunno, I would just put a new cylinder on." The cyliner is very expensive. I have since taken the cylinder completely out and when I shake it, it has fluid in it. Any thoughts?
