40 HP Force Caruretor

Some type of contraption broke off the bottom of the float bowl, and has some elect wires connected to it. Of course the bowl leaks through the hole where the whatizit was connected. Is this thing a fuel cut-off solenoid? And, can I eliminate it? I have looked at a zillion pics on the i'net of Force 40 hp carbs and none show the thing....... anybody help please.....

Not seeing it makes it difficult. If I had to guess, if it has electrical wires coming from it, it could be a solenoid to prime the engine for cold starts.
