I just bought what was claimed to be a 1995 40HP Mecury motor. I want to confirm this, plus I need parts. The serial number is 06291100. Can someone please point me to a chart that covers the mid 90's and/or give me the rundown on this number. Also, my 15ft sylvan sea monster has a quicksilver control for this motor and the outer sheathing on the cables where the enter the outboard are about to break. I don't know what series control it is (model numbers are missing) but it looks just like the one listed on ebay right now:

My research has lead me to information on a recall for the 94-95 year range on these controls....that is the other reason I need to know what I have.

If anyone can help me get this stuff figured out so I can get on the water, that would be great. Thanks.

It seems that I have the wrong serial number. I will check into this tonight and repost.

I think that you left a digit off again, if it's a 0 then yes your engine was built in 1995. To research anything the right info to start the search is a plus. You should be able to pick out your box and find the parts you need researching this site. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=889892

Re: 40 HP merc serial number decoding + quicksilver engine control

Laddies, thanks for the link. I did indeed leave off a 0...it was a typo. The correct number is the first that I gave with the "6" replaced with a "G".

Can you or anyone point me toward a chart to decode my serial number so I can get all of the info on my motor?

As a side note, I finally took my head out of my rear and took the old cables off...there was a model no right on them. The cables are on the way.

Thanks again.
