I have a 1994 40 hp vro evinrude that has no spark. I fired it up for the first time this year about a week ago it started ok with a little choke. Then we took it to the lake for the 2nd time yesterday and it was a no go It would occasionally pop and run but wouldnt stay running. I took it home and I rebuilt the carbs and replaced the fuel lines (needed it for a long time) and it fired right up after that and ran better then it ever did. Then the next day i went to fire it up and it ran a bit and died and wouldnt fire up again after that. I checked for spark and i dont have any. I also pulled the red main electricall connector and jumped the starter and still didint have any. Do you guys have any advice on what to check or what may have went wrong.

1.model #...2. Factory Service Manual < ebay, Ken Cook Co., outboardbooks.com...3. multimeter + dva adapter...4. cdielectronics/troubleshooting...the free stuff is to unplug all the connections and clean the pins and sockets, remove the ground wires for the coils and powerpack and clean the area they screw into...several sites show the diagrams for your ignition system and have parts no.'s and cost, I use marineengine.com as it's simple to navigate. You'll see that these components are not inexpensive, so a systemantic approach to diagnosing the cause is a must. Even a rudimentary idea of how it works < that's what I possess > will help demystify the troubleshooting

There are some power pack issues with those engines. The wire harness going into that potted assembly can become intermittent. Unfortuanely because of the potted assembly they are not repairable.
