402 40hp merc....motor won't shut off...SUCCESS!!!

The orange and brown wires were wired together. If you put them where they are supposed to be no more shocks and motor turns off fine. Thanks to all that replied. Only took me four days to figure this one out. BUY A MANUAL!!!!! IT WORKS!

yeah! Took the boat out tonight....ran great! NOW....I pulled over to say hey to a friend, turned off the motor. When I went to start it again......I have no gears....no reverse/forward. Lower unit? I don't think I was meant to have this boat. It worked great for two hours. Any ideas? Thanks.
