Hi, I bought a boat 4 years ago, and had 2 or so years trouble free motoring, Now I am starting to get a few issues.
First, I cant ID the motor, the PO had taken off the ID plate on it, plays hell with insuring the damn thing, Is there any other way apart from the ID plate to find out what exactly the motor is?
I have ID'd it as a 40 HP Mariner, Possibly the Yamaha motor... running 50:1
The Issue I have is with idling, It will run on power all day, and have done, with no issues with power pickup or putting the power down, It runs as sweet as a nut. But when I idle, it will idle for a random time, Cough and cut out. I can restart it straight away on the pull starter, If I run it slightly off idle, It will cough but still run. I have dialed up the Idle screw slightly to compensate this, and It feels like it is struggling to idle.
I have tried-
Fresh 'super' high octane fuel, every trip (the car loves the old stuff)
Carb cleaner, including par-filling the bowls with the stuff, helped briefly.
New fuel fittings and filter,
New plugs,
Now I have taken the carbs off the boat, and I have cleaned them out, with a lot of acetone, The seals are going to be replaced in a few weeks, I have ordered some (coming from overseas).
I havent disturbed the screw settings, I would appreciate a bit of advice on how to set these up if I have to do so...
Found this in the bottom of the bowls, is this normal?
Thanks!
