Re: 454 chev big block broken pushrods,

I couldn't imagine putting a rebuilt engine in a boat without test running and adjusting everything while it's still sitting on the floor.

The word "Inept" to describe your mechanic seems very polite to me. Where did he come from, is he a dealer? Had you used him before? did you go shoping for a mechanic to install this less than complete engine? Did the engine guy and your mechanic both have the lowest bid for the job?????

Ozzie,

In my opinion,
Stop. If your mech is VACC call them and report him, if he's not VACC call the fair trading ombusman - you got a case my boy. Get the motor out of his hands and into an independant mech that the VACC will likely recommend. Be polite but don't take any s*it from this guy. IMO a big part of any legal battle will be WHO supplied the motor, him or you. Did you buy it and then give it to the mech to fit or did he supply & fit? Consumers in Australia are well protected legally but it will still get ugly - at the very least get some advise.

I've been in this game for nearly 25 years and have seen too many incompetent mechanics get away with expensive mistakes, it makes my blood boil.

Aldo

Whats going on? How the h*ll can ANY mechanic 'forget' about the core plugs. There's the tiny issue of OIL & WATER SPILLING OUT EVERYWHERE. Didn't it raise alarm bells Ozzie? Not once, but twice!! And now he's billing you!!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose he's also charging you the cost of cleaning up the mess.

If he's a registered business he must have insurance - latch on to his jugular and don't let go.

Rant over.

Aldo

Re: 454 chev big block broken pushrods,

Hey all - extra hi to Dunaruna,

Yep we are takin both the supplier & mechanic to Dept of Fair Trading. We did supply the engine to the mechanic. It wasn't till mechanic gave us his bill we realised the extent of the damage he has caused. We feel that they have both contributed to this mess. Unfotunately for us we trusted them both. The supplier told us the engine was suitable for a boat (even though a truck engine chev 454) The mechanic works at the Marina where we purchased the boat. It had no motor to begin with which made it hard to take it somewhere else.

Yep he charged us for cleaning up the mess even the engine bay & it was full of oil & water & never looked clean.

We have the engine being pulled apart & photographed by an independant reconditioning expert who has been to Dept fair trading doing this before. He is preparing a technical report.

We will know in two weeks about a hearing date. Will keep you posted on results.
