It's possible one cylinder isn't firing. At idle, sometimes it's hard to tell. You can check while it's running with one of those neon spark test lamps.

Welcome to Iboats!! First things first, check compression, spark, and fuel delivery. It sounds like you need to clean the carb/carbs, rebuild the fuel pump (easy and cheap), and make sure your getting spark to both cylinders.

This engine has only one carb. In my opinion, because it seems to idle well indicates it's getting fuel, and 3/4 of the throttle range operates on the idle circuit, so I wouldn't be quick to suspect the idle circuit in the carb. The main jet only comes into play at 3/4 to wide open throttle.

I have seen these motors appear to be idling well as if on both cylinders, but in reality, it's only running on one cylinder. When you start operating the motor under load, then it becomes evident.

It needs much less voltage to fire the plug at idle but as soon as you open it up the pressure rises and it only runs one cylinder ..look to your contacts and condensers..

let us know is it new to you or just started to do it .....???

Compression test.Spark test.Re-build the fuel pump, clean the carb.Carbs off, check the reeds.
The ethanol in the fuel is messing with older hoses and causing trouble.Any soft hoses?
Check the points for corrosion.
