I have aquired a very old 5 hp. outboard, marketed by Sears. The only tag I have found is on the powerhead by Tecumseh, info is
643 24A
TECUMSEH
7010
It is unlike the Gamefisher info I'm finding online in that the fuel tank is steel and that is the top of the frame, there is no plastic cover. Can someone help with info for identification. Made by Eska? Can I still find an accurate service manual? What could be a good source for carb rebuild kit, or rebuilt carb. The problem I'm having is that it will usually start when choked, but starts and stalls on the next pull when choke is open for starting. I've just got my hands on this and yet unsure what to try to replace.(little more background) When I first got this started, I had to adjust the needle @ the bottom of the carb in(clockwise) to get it to stop blubbering(like it was flooding on its fuel while running). As I adjusted that needle in, it raised in rpm's and run cleaner. Now it wants to stall instead of running. Thank you for looking, hope you can help>

Get a complete carb kit from www.certifiedpartscorp.com you have to call them but there great and they own whats left of Eska.

Also as a mater of fact for anyone interested I spoke with certified yesterday and inquired about the age of some of the carb rebuild parts and they told me that flaper valves, the rubber fuel pump elements and the rest of the carb rebuild parts were not NOS but freshly minted parts much to my delight:D certified parts corp has also just acquired the tecumseh name and stock. Also all of the tecumseh manuals.

Thank You very much for the assistance about the carb. I didn't do very well at finding all model and serial numbers before I asked questions.
Model # 217/58542-0
Serial # 055513
This found me a complete parts breakdown and numbers of parts that are not available any longer from sears.com. Do you have any idea when this was made? Tecumseh power head and Lauson carb

All Sears Outboards with model numbers 217.586000 and above where built by Eska Outboard in 1985 - 1986. Eska closed and stopped production in 1986.
Most of those motors used a 50:1 Oil Mix. Most used Plugs J-12-Y with a gap of .030

so I would guess you motor is 82-84 but I'm not sure, maybe someone else will know.

<I didn't do very well at finding all model and serial numbers before I asked questions. Model # 217/58542-0>

Go to <http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/Model21758510-58882.htm>

On that page you will discover that the '72 3 horse which should have had the model # your engine bears is completely missing from the logical sequence. So I'm only assuming it to be '72 model but all the others in that sequence use a 24/1 fuel/oil mix so that's what you should be using no matter what it says on the oil bottle.

Well I can't find that model no. but one thing tells me its not a 72 Tom, its a gamefisher w/points and not a Ted Williams so I'm almost sure its a much newer model.

I'm mystified as well, but if you'll take a look at the page I referenced you'll see that there is a logical sequence from @ 1970 thru @ 1975 in the 3 horse series.
Logic suggests that his model # should fall in 1972 where there is no entry. Of course we both know that logic and Eska weren't always companions.;)
