Have you read and followed the overheat file I gave you a link to earlier? If you had, you would know where your problem is by now.

I did but apparently not as thoroughly as I have now. Next step, flush the system. Thanks!

You need to check that your hoses are not swapped at the Raw water pump. The circulation pump only moves water through the block like a car. The Raw water pump supplys the water to the circulation pump and it also supplys constant water to cool the manifolds. Believe that the Top line to the raw water pump is the water supply line from the outdrive and the bottom line runs up to the thermostat housing. Good luck

Thanks B! That was actually one of the first things I checked since one was off for winterizing when we bought the boat, especially since it's our first one. I checked the manual and then, after understanding the function/rotation of the impeller, confirmed they're good. I still occasionally double check it while working on it ;-) I appreciate your input.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! We ended up taking it to a local mechanic known for his VP expertise. He found some damage from salt water. We bought it from the Ft. Worth area but apparently it had spent some time deeper in Texas. There were a couple grommets in the intake system that were ate up and a seal in the back of supply pump was also bad. We took it out last weekend and it ran great, never getting over 175! Thanks for all the input!

Good to hear he solved your problem.....thanks for the update. An experienced machanic is worth the money....

So, the rusted grommets caused overheating....by letting air into the system? How and where was the problem fixed?

My understanding is that there are two rubber grommets located between the upper and lower units. Mine were deteriorated and causing the "sucking through a cracked straw" effect so he replaced them.
