I had cut the head off of 2 long enough cheap bolts. I installed them loosely. Slide motor on them. Then put the real bolts in 1 at a time. Easy, SAFE, no cuts. Can torque the difficult one first.

There's no reason why studs into the engine block and nuts to hold the starter on wouldn't work, I have not seen it done with a starter, but some do this with cylinder heads....

Ayuh,..... There wouldn't be enough space to slide the starter in,.....

Ive had to deal with Arco warranty a few times. Its terrible. I prefer Sierra they have a nice epoxy coating, and their starters usually fit and include bolts warranty replacement is super easy to deal with and they will reimburse shop labor.

Yep you’re right didn’t think of that because in my boat it probably would work. OMC used studs & nuts for exhaust manifolds and they were plated so I never had trouble removing them like what can happen with just bolts; but they can’t be used in tight engine bays because the manifolds won’t have room to slide off….

O K Just put in the easiest bolt. The one closest to you. Slide motor all the way onto it. Swing motor up into place. Put the REAL BOLT into motor and block hole. Finger tight only. Replace the last headless bolt. Final tighten Both bolts. I final torque the inner bolt first. Then torque the easier outer bolt.
I forget that some motors are really tightly packed in.

A few I have looked at, you'd have to pull the engine to change a starter or a steering actuator. I would never buy a boat from a company that would do that. To me that says, we really don't care what boating costs you. So, you don't ever get my business!
